Common questions
Morning dress hire — what to know.
Morning dress is appropriate for formal daytime events — weddings with a 'morning dress' or 'formal' dress code, Melbourne Cup, Randwick feature race days, Royal enclosures and formal daytime ceremonies. It is worn before six in the evening; after that, a tuxedo takes its place.
Morning dress consists of a morning coat — single-breasted, cut away at the front — worn with striped trousers, a waistcoat, formal shirt and cravat. It is the most formal of the daytime dress codes, above a lounge suit and below white tie. A lounge suit is a conventional jacket and trouser, correct for a much wider range of occasions.
Your hire includes the morning coat, striped trousers, waistcoat in grey or buff, a formal shirt, cravat or tie. Everything is fitted and pressed on the premises before collection. Dress shoes can be added for $50.
Yes. Morning dress is the traditional and correct attire for Members and Chairman's Club enclosures on major race days in Sydney and Melbourne. It is the expected standard for Melbourne Cup, Everest, and Randwick's feature fixtures.
Two to three weeks is comfortable for a single hire. During spring racing season and the October–November wedding peak, demand is highest — booking four to six weeks ahead is advisable to secure your dates and fitting time.
